Is It Your Turbo?
Many of these symptoms can also come from a split hose, a sticking EGR valve or a faulty sensor, so check those first. See our turbocharger guide for the full list of symptoms and causes.
How to Choose the Right Turbocharger
- Find the part number on the label or plate on your old turbo. This is the most reliable way to match.
- Confirm the engine: make, model, year, engine size and engine code. The same model can use different turbos with different engines.
- Check the actuator type. Some turbos use a vacuum actuator and others an electronic one. The new turbo must match.
- Not sure? Send our team your registration or VIN, or a photo of the turbo label, for a free fitment check.
- Change the engine oil and oil filter, using the grade your engine needs.
- Replace the oil feed pipe if it's blocked or carbonised, and fit new gaskets.
- Check the oil return line and engine breather are clear.
- Clean out the intercooler and boost pipes if the old turbo has pushed oil into them.
- Prime the turbo with clean oil before the first start, and let the engine idle for a few minutes.

Turbocharger FAQs
Where do I find my turbo's part number?
It's on a label or metal plate on the turbo housing. It can be hard to read on an old turbo, so send us a photo or your registration and we'll help identify it.
Why did my old turbo fail?
The most common causes are oil starvation, dirty or wrong-grade oil, a blocked oil feed pipe, and foreign objects entering the turbo. Fix the cause before fitting a new turbo, or it can fail again.
Can I drive with a failing turbo?
It's not recommended. A failing turbo can push oil into the intake and, in the worst cases, damage the engine. Get it checked as soon as possible.
Is a whistling noise always the turbo?
No. A split boost hose or a loose intercooler pipe can also whistle. Check the turbo and intercooler hoses before replacing the turbo.
Do I need to code or adapt the new turbo?
Some cars with electronic turbo actuators need the actuator calibrated or adapted with a diagnostic tool after fitting. Your mechanic can confirm this for your engine.
Can't find your car?
Not every turbo we can supply is listed online. Contact our parts team with your registration, VIN or turbo part number and we'll check.
