BMW used both lock families across overlapping years, so the part number printed on your old lock is the safest way to match. Always check the individual product page or send us your reg.
How to Choose the Right BMW Door Lock
- Find your model's chassis code, for example E90, F30 or F48. It's in your V5C or service book, or we can find it from your reg.
- Pick the door: front or rear, and right (driver side on UK cars) or left (passenger side).
- Match the BMW part number and pin count on your old lock. Part numbers start with 5121 for front doors and 5122 for rear doors.
- Still unsure? Send our team your registration or VIN, or a photo of the old lock's label. The fitment check is free.

BMW Door Lock FAQs
Where do I find the part number on my BMW door lock?
It's printed on a label on the lock body, usually starting 5121 (front) or 5122 (rear), followed by seven digits such as 7202144. You'll need to remove the door card to see it, or send us your reg and we'll check.
What is the difference between the 7202 and 7281 locks?
They're two different BMW lock designs. The 7202 locks fit older 1, 3 and 5 Series models, and the 7281 "system latch" locks fit later models such as the F45 / F46 2 Series and F48 X1. They are not interchangeable.
Why is Mini listed on BMW door locks?
BMW and Mini share several rear and front locks. If your Mini's old lock has the same part number, the BMW listing will fit.
Is the actuator separate from the latch?
On these BMW models the motor is built into the latch, so the complete lock unit is replaced.
