Is It Your Throttle Body?

Rough or hunting idle
Revs rise and fall, or the engine shakes at idle.

Limp mode
Power is cut, usually with the engine warning light on.

Poor pick-up
Flat spots or slow response on the accelerator.

Stalling
Especially when slowing down or coming to a stop.

Chevrolet Cruze 1.6 and 1.8 petrol: two different throttle bodies were fitted (55560398 and 55577375). Both are 6-pin and look similar, so check the number on your old unit before ordering.

How to Choose

Find the part number on the label of your old throttle body and match it to the tables above or the product listing.
Count the pins in the plug. The new throttle body must fit your wiring.
Confirm the engine: size, petrol or diesel, and year. The Aveo and Cruze use different throttle bodies for 1.2/1.4 and 1.6/1.8 engines.

After fitting: clear any stored fault codes and let the engine learn the new throttle body. On most Chevrolet and Vauxhall petrol engines this is an ignition-on and idle routine, but some need a diagnostic tool. Without a relearn you may get a high or unstable idle. Will a Vauxhall or Opel throttle body fit my Chevrolet?

Often, yes. Chevrolet, Vauxhall and Opel were all part of General Motors and share many engines. For example, the Cruze 1.6 and the Astra J 1.6 use the same throttle body. If the part number on your old unit matches, it will fit.

Which throttle body fits a Captiva 2.2 diesel?

The 2011-on Captiva 2.2 D uses part number 19420703 / 25183238. The same unit fits the Cruze and Orlando 2.0 diesel and the Vauxhall Antara 2.2 CDTi.

Do I need to relearn a new throttle body?

Usually, yes. The engine computer needs to learn the closed position of the new unit. On many Chevrolet petrol engines this happens with an ignition-on and idle routine. Some models need a diagnostic tool.

Will cleaning fix my throttle body?

It can help if the problem is carbon build-up. It won't fix a worn motor or a failed position sensor. If fault codes return after cleaning, the unit needs replacing.
