How to Choose the Right Audi Door Lock

Know your model and generation, for example A4 B7 or A4 B8. This often decides the OE family.
Pick the door: front or rear, and right (driver side on UK cars) or left (passenger side).
Match the OE number and pin count on your old lock. Audi locks come with 6, 7, 8 or 9-pin plugs, and the new one must match your wiring.

Fitting tips: check the fuse and the door wiring loom first, as broken wires in the rubber gaiter cause the same symptoms. On models with comfort access or keyless entry, keep the exterior handle connections the same as the old lock. Transfer the cables carefully, set the child lock on rear latches, and test with the door open before refitting the door card.

What do 8J, 8K and 4G mean on an Audi lock?

They're the first characters of the Audi OE number and show which lock family the part belongs to. For example, 8J numbers are front locks for the A4 B8, A5, Q5 and similar models, and 8K numbers are the matching rear locks.

Will an A4 B7 lock fit an A4 B8?

Not usually. The B6 / B7 uses 8E / 4F locks, while the B8 uses 8J front and 8K rear locks. Match the OE number on your old lock.

Why is VW Touareg or Seat Exeo listed on Audi locks?

They share door locks with Audi models. The Touareg uses the same 8J front and 4G rear locks as several Audis, and the Exeo was developed from the A4.

Is the actuator separate from the latch?

On these Audi models the motor is built into the latch, so the complete lock unit is replaced.
